In recent weeks we sent several government ministers proposals in which we raised the acute need to increase enforcement against illegal construction in the Arab sector. In the last decade, we have pointed to dozens of petitions that were submitted to the courts, in discussions in committees of the Knesset, and the media about the points of the failure in the enforcement policy.
Today at its weekly meeting, the government approved the government bill that includes a comprehensive plan for increased enforcement. Among other things, the decision imposes on local authorities in minority communities the responsibility for the supervision and enforcement in their territory.
This is the first time since the inception of the State that such a thorough job was done in order to address the issue of enforcement against illegal construction across the whole country, especially in the Arab sector.
There still is a lot of work to implement the decision, and there is still a long road ahead of us, but we are pleased to have begun to walk it.
We will continue to monitor and update.
